Secluded mountaintop retreat with space for the whole family. 7 Bedrooms / 5 1/2 Baths. Separate family rooms for adults and kids. Double decks with mountain views. This is a wonderful house for a family reunion, a group of friends, a girl's (or boy's) weekend away, or for a couple of families to share. Relax in the clean mountain air after a hard day of skiing or hiking at renowned Wintergreen mountain resort. Choose from two golf courses, a world class tennis facility (consistently ranked in the top 50 in the U.S.), skiing (or snow-tubing). Hike the Appalachian Trail, the Blue Ridge Parkway, or Skyline Drive. Visit the spa, two outdoor pools with tennis courts and picnic tables, or the nature center. Drop the kids off at the Treehouse for a day of fun activities while the adults ski or hike. Choose to visit in July or August and attend the Wintergreen Music Festival. So much to do (even without the two nearby lakes, the Shakespeare Theater, or Monticello). Or just kick back on the deck with the mountain views and a glass of wine from the local wineries. The home is ideal for a big group. With a total of 12 beds (10 singles and two kings) we are able to accommodate 14 people comfortably. The home is on three levels (you enter on the middle level). The middle level has a master suite, living room, dining room, kitchen, and laundry room as well as a half bath. Upstairs the second master suite is on one side of the home and two bedrooms connected by a Jack and Jill bath are on the other. The lower level has a large second family room (we usually find the adults take the middle level room and the kids the lower level for activities). A hallway (that can be closed off with a pocket door) leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. The final bedroom and a bathroom that can be accessed by the living room as well is on the other side of the house. Both living rooms have wood burning fireplaces (we provide the wood) and lead out to large decks overlooking the valley. There is a partial view of the ski slopes to the right from the deck. On the upper deck is a large propane grill (we provide the propane on request) as well as outdoor seating. The driveway is steep but at the bottom is a large flat area that will accommodate 5-6 cars. There is also a basketball goal. Everything on the mountain is close by. The lodge and ski slopes are about a 3 minute drive. The Wintergreen tennis facility (regularly ranked as one of the top 50 in the nation) is five minutes. Two golf courses (one on the mountain and one at Stoney Brook) are nearby. The Wintergreen Spa (with a large indoor pool, several outdoor hot tubs, and a gym) is near the tennis facility. There is a nature center and the 'Treehouse', an activities area for children near the lodge. For older children there is a large video game room (including a bull-riding ride), put-put golf, snow tubing (or a zip line in the summer) and trampolines. The Appalachian Trail abuts Wintergreen and is a five minute drive from the home. In addition, Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway are each about 20 minutes from our home. Two lakes (one managed by Wintergreen with inflatable trampolines in a swimming area) are also nearby as is the James River. There are numerous wineries within thirty minutes of the home. Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) is near Charlottesville (about 40 minutes away). The Stanton Shakespeare theater is about 40 minutes away. In July and August Wintergreen hosts a music festival with concerts, master classes, and lots of related activities. It's a great time to visit. Winter is the prime season at Wintergreen due to its popular ski resort. We are about 3 minutes from the main slope, ski rentals, etc. by car. It is possible to walk to a ski slope from our home but it is about 200 yards away (you walk to the end of Pedlars Edge Drive, go on a path between two homes and you are there). The summer is also a great time to visit Wintergreen for hiking and nature. Our home does not have air conditioning but we have ceiling fans in most of our rooms. Because the temperature is usually 10 degrees cooler on the mountain than elsewhere, the breezes and the fans are almost always just fine. But when it's over 100 degrees at the bottom of the mountain (usually about one week every other year), the home may be warm.
